Standing majestically atop the rolling prairies of Eastern Montana, the Fort Peck Summer Theatre (FPST) is one of the state’s most magnificent treasures. Originally built in 1934 as a temporary structure, its beauty and sound construction have stood the test of time. Today it is a vibrant, vital part of community and culture for residents and visitors alike. Both the Fort Peck Summer Theatre and the conservative town of Fort Peck have a rich history dating back to the New Deal and origins during the building of the Fort Peck Dam.

The Artistic Director (AD) is responsible for developing, coordinating and leading the arts programming for the Fort Peck Theatre summer program. This position will consult regularly with the Fort Peck Fine Arts Council (FPFAC) Board of Directors.

Responsibilities:

  • The AD is responsible for the hiring and management of company members required for the operation of the Fort Peck Summer Theatre during the summer season. These members include but are not limited to actors and technical staff.

  • The AD will attend auditions for professional cast, negotiate weekly salaries, and collaborate with the Fort Peck Fine Arts Council Executive Director (ED) to help execute contracts and on-boarding protocol.

  • The AD will conduct auditions for local and regional volunteer actors to help foster community relations and involvement.

  • The AD will engage in weekly/bi-weekly communication with the FPFAC Executive Director, and an FPFAC Board Member to discuss priorities, budgetary details, successes and any other information FPST summer season.

  • The AD will also report monthly to the FPFAC Board of Directors to give updates on artistic activities. The AD is welcome to participate in discussions, however, is not entitled to vote.

  • The AD acts as a spokesperson for the Fort Peck Summer Theatre via public appearances, fundraising events and other community engagement activities. This position will also schedule the appearances of company members for promotional or community purposes.

  • The AD will make artistic decisions related to production and will coordinate with the Board of Directors regarding all major budgetary decisions. They will help oversee all artistic staff positions, rehearsals, and collaborate with technical staff.

  • The AD will ensure all equipment (i.e. sound equipment, shop tools, and electronics) is properly tracked in accordance with the Fort Peck Theatre’s policies and appropriately stored at the end of the summer season.

  • The AD will oversee the Fort Peck Theatre’s Youth Performing Arts Camp.

  • The AD is responsible for the supervision of company personnel during the summer season. This includes the right to exercise disciplinary action, in coordination with FPFAC Executive Board when necessary.

Education/Experience: Applicable work experience or a degree in a theatre-related field

Salary: DOE depends on experience and qualifications
